Simple, comforting, and endlessly customizable, this burger recipe is a timeless favorite for weeknight dinners and backyard cookouts alike.

Fun Facts:

  • Burgers made with 80/20 ground beef are juicier because the fat melts during cooking, naturally basting the meat.

  • Pressing a burger while it cooks actually pushes the juices out, making it drier—hands off is best!

  • Letting burgers rest for a couple of minutes after cooking helps the juices redistribute, just like with steak.

  • Cheeseburgers became popular in the U.S. in the 1920s and quickly turned burgers into a comfort-food classic.

  • Toasting the bun creates a crispy barrier that helps keep it from getting soggy.

How to make Burger Patties:

Step 1: In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, seasonings, crumbs, egg and lemon juice. Mix just until combined—don’t overwork the meat.

Step 2: Form patties about ¾-inch thick (Its easiest to use a burger press). Press a small indent in the center of each patty to prevent puffing.

Step 3: Grill: Preheat to medium-high. Cook patties 3–4 minutes per side. Skillet: Heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Cook 3–4 minutes per side.
